The final tour in the mountains before it is off to the ocean – Take  a wonderful mountain range with epic views, add some challenging scrambles and throw in a sumner summer day – you get a great day out!

So we did, when Dad and me headed out to cross the Hochtour Group of the Gesause (“Xeis”) last week. The Xeis is spectacular limestone range in Styria, which has been a popular destination for serious climbers since more than hundred years.

The Details: Total Climbing time: 14hours (total ascent elevation 2300m, travelled distance 19.5km) – Scrambles up to II+/III-
Peaks reached:
Kleiner Oedstein
Grosser Oedstein
Festkogel
Hochtor
Planspitze

The route followed the Kirchengrat up to the Grosser Oedstein. From there pretty much the skyline of the mountain range following, along the Rosskuppengrat to the Peternscharte. Then over the Planspitze down the Wasserfallweg into the Ennsvalley.
